The population is 32.8 million. 77 percent of Canadians live in cities and towns, most within 200 km (125 mi) of the U.S. border. Canada is a federation comprising of ten provinces and three territories; Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual and multicultural country, with both English and French as official languages both at the federal level and in the province of New Brunswick. One of the world's highly developed countries, Canada has a diversified economy that is reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade--particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship. It is a member of the G8, G-20, NATO, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, WTO, Commonwealth of Nations, Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, OAS, APEC, and United Nations.
